Travel Editor

We're an Amsterdam-based team of 19 (and counting) with 10+ nationalities amongst us – a varied bunch of “Citizens of The World” with a range of cool skills and hundreds of thousands of kilometers under our travel belts. We also have something important in common (other than our very well-worn passports): We want to change the way people travel.

And that's exactly what we're doing, with the travel app to plan, track, and remember trips in a smart and beautiful way. Polarsteps has over 2 million users already, but, for us, this is just the start. You see, there are amazing new features on our roadmap, and we need even more talented & ambitious people to help us on our journey.

So, are you ready for your next adventure?

Travel Editor at Polarsteps

As Travel Editor, you'll be creating our soon-to-be-launched destination guides, the beating heart of our brand-new planning feature. Polarsteps Guides are a collection of the world’s best travel destinations and insider tips — putting the most exciting, glorious, weird, interesting, quirky, adrenaline-filled places and experiences into travelers' hands (and pockets). Tips are created by our adventure-loving editors (that would be you!), as well as including recommendations from our worldly Polarsteps users. You'll have the opportunity to build and improve this new content ecosystem with us and help shape the future of travel planning!

Our constant innovation is done with a clear aim: to turn Polarsteps into the best travel app out there — which is probably why we've been featured multiple times in the App Store, as well as in Apple’s WWDC keynote speeches in both 2017 and 2018.

All of this, of course, puts a massive smile on our face, but we're nowhere near done (and you could be a part of it).

Your role

As part of our fast-growing editorial team (five and counting!), you'll have end-to-end ownership of your own destination guides. This means researching your destination, curating tips and photos shared by the Polarsteps community, and writing premium copy to create awesome Guides.

What you'll do

  • Research the best places to stay, eat and drink, and things to see and do for destinations all over the world;

  • Write crisp travel content, making the most of a very limited word count;

  • Choose premium visuals from multiple sources to showcase a destination;

  • Search for top insider tips provided by our community;

  • Create high-quality destination guides in our CMS, from start to finish;

  • Be the face of your own city, park, and island guides;

  • Copy-edit other Travel Editors' Guides;

  • Work as part of the Polarsteps team, contributing to a positive and inclusive work environment.

You will be valued for

  • Having 3+ years professional experience as a writer, blogger, and/or editor;

  • Having a passion for travel, being a true globetrotter, and spending hours researching destinations online;

  • Being able to produce well-written, entertaining but factually watertight copy;

  • Having an exceptionally high standard of English in writing and impeccable grammar;

  • Having a keen eye for aesthetics and visuals;

  • Being excited to work in a scale-up environment.

What’s in for you?

  • As well as being part of our amazing journey, we have a couple of other things to offer. You know, perks... the cool stuff. Oh, and yes, that free flight to a random location you've heard about? It's true. Try it out and give our Teleporter a spin here.

  • Travel, family time, relaxing in your garden – whatever you need to recharge your batteries – you'll have 28 days of vacay for all your adventures & desires.

  • We love to spend time together – whether it is during our daily team lunch, Friday drinks (aka Pollo Pollo's*) or our legendary road trips & outings – team Polarsteps is a happy lot that are always up for an adventure.

  • Love biking? Or do you prefer public transport? Either way, our office in downtown Amsterdam is easy to get to, and we will cover your travel costs!

  • The second best thing about an unforgettable journey is the memories of it. That's why you'll have the opportunity to get all your travel memories in the form of beautiful Travel Books – for free :)

Please note:

  • We are, of course, all working from home right now — but once things are back to normal, we'll look to combine busy days in our Amsterdam office with the possibility to work from home a few days each week. Since we will want to see our lovely team's faces in the office most of the time, we are only accepting candidates who live within a reasonable traveling distance of Amsterdam. We do unfortunately not offer a relocation package or visa sponsorships for this position.

  • We're looking for editors who are willing to work in a full-time capacity (32+ hours a week).

  • For this position, being fluent in English isn't enough — to qualify, you must have an exceptionally high standard of written English.

FINAL DEADLINE for applications: 30th of March 2021.
